What is the approach used by the Advisory Inclusion Teacher at IEC?

An Advisory Inclusion Teacher (AIT) provides a range of services to remove barriers to inclusion and promote the achievement of individual pupils and groups of pupils within school settings including consultation, assessment, advice, strategies, interventions and training opportunities.  This involves working closely with parents, carers and other adults involved in a child’s educational journey. 

This child-centred approach seeks to identify a child’s learning style(s) and individual needs within the context of the educational setting that they are a part of, and enhance their experience through strategies, interventions and collaborative work with parents and other adults involved in their schooling. It also aims at providing schools and educational staff with the knowledge and skills to deliver evidence based interventions and overall a better quality of education.

Services offered

  • Teacher Based Assessments to identify gaps in learning including observation, child interview (where appropriate) assessment and feedback report.
  • Small group Teacher Based Interventions in the areas of Literacy & Numeracy.
  • Offering strategies and advice to support classroom organisation and management.
  • Supporting the development of Individual Education Plans and learning programmes.
  • Teacher Training in specific intervention programs.
  • In-Service training (INSET) and workshops in relevant areas for teams of educational staff. 
  • Linking with other professionals as appropriate and working as part of multi-agency team.
